11:59PM

I checked my email at 11:58 pm tonight. I had an email from Kmart, telling me not to fear, they are open until midnight.

I love irony.

1:00PM

I got to have coffee today with someone who was on the worship team at Huron Hills last year, who now lives in Vancouver. I hadn't really talked to her in, oh, at least 3 months. We went to Sweetwaters. :)

I am now seriously pondering a Vancouver visit. I was looking at Google maps...

Did you know that there is a Dawson Creek, BC? Me neither.

11:44PM - Great song

"Plea from a cat named Vertute", by the Weakerthans.

You can listen to it for free at http://radio3.cbc.ca/ if you go hunt and peck for it.

Wow that's a great song. But, I'm a kitty person.

10:55PM - The form letter

Hello friends and family,

As you know, in January I will be walking a half marathon as a
fundraiser for Crohns and Colitis, to raise money for research and
support for people with these diseases. In order to participate, I am
required to raise a minimum of $4,000. As a milestone, I would like
to raise $3500 by Christmas.

As a mathematician, I have decided that this means I need to find 100
people willing to donate $35 to the cause by Christmas. If you could
find it in your heart to donate $35 to helping to find a cure for
these miserable diseases (want details? I can give you details ;) ),
I and thousands of others would appreciate it.

Don't want to hand me cash? Awesome! Because the easiest way for me
to do it, is to have you donate on my website:

http://www.active.com/donate/MI08MICH/racewithanna

Thank you so much!

- Anna

That would be me hitting up my friends and family for money.

But, seriously, if you have $35 (or even slightly more or less;) ) that you can spare, I would really appreciate your support in this right now. $4,000 is a lot of money, and I've raised a little over $200 as of right now.

3:58PM

I just finished reading my friends' page, and I just want to say:

You are all beautiful. Somehow, when I look at all of your experiences, thoughts, and quotes together, they blend to make this beautiful picture, a sampling of what is good about humanity.

You are caring. You are excited about life. You are passionate in many ways and about many things. You are honest about your failings, and also in the ways that you question yourselves. And then you ask other questions. You consider turning small portions of your lives on their heads to see what the result would be, or what new things you would learn about yourselves.

Its the livejournal equivalent of fall colors.

Its beautiful.

Thank you.

10:48PM - Math camp, day 8

So, today we started using Markov models with the kids. We're going to do a project that evaluates the importance of websites based on the number of links coming in to them.

Can you guess which website at U of M is most important according to our algorithm?

The combinatorics seminar.

Don't even try to tell me that isn't hilarious.

In other news, we are collaborating with another class to make activities for the last day. I had something special in my pocket when I got home tonight. A theorem written on a napkin.

This is so cool.

11:44PM

I found that t-shirt I'd told some of you about.

When I went to visit Emerson before school got out, one of the other math teachers was wearing this. Isn't it priceless?

No, it isn't, its $19.95.

4:56PM

In 2 more days I will no longer be square.

On that day, it will be a year until I am a cube.

On that day, it will be 3 years until I am in my prime again.

Nerdy is part of my job description. ;)

5:03PM

Its just after 5pm, and I'm exhausted, and I'm going to bed. The sore throat that has been teasing me for the past week seems to be getting ready to fight.

Here's hoping I can sleep this off.

6:32PM - Eating cereal with a fork

All of my spoons are currently in the dishwasher, so I'm eating cereal with a fork.

I remember my ex-boyfriend's brother saying one time that that was how you knew your friends were on hard drugs... when you stayed the night at their house and found yourself eating cereal with a fork with them the next morning.

9:11PM

Who rented RENT tonight at Blockbuster, even though it has already shipped from Amazon.com, and tonight is a school night?

You betcha. Me, pizza, my computer, Jordan (cat), and RENT. It was a lovely evening. We even watched all the deleted scenes and the alternate ending.

For the record, I like the alternate ending better than the one they actually put in the movie. It has better symmetry and emphasizes hope more.

9:51PM

So I decided today, that in a little over 3 months I will run a little over 3 miles. And then I sat down at my computer and ate a Kit Kat bar.

But seriously, I signed up for the 5K portion of the Dexter-Ann Arbor Run, which is on June 4th this year. I'm hoping to beat my time from last year (35:11). Anybody with me?

11:42PM

Today was awesome. I spent over half my day at Java Junction.

I'd planned to just hang out with someone from church there with my snow day, but it turned out there were other people there that I knew, so I got to chat with lots of people, started reading a book, had a coffee, had a cookie, kept reading, found out that one of my friend's little brother gives guitar lessons for $5 a half hour, so I decided that that would rock.

I had my first guitar lesson ever tonight. It was fun. I've got some chords and stuff that I learned and things are super spiffy.

On friday nights at Java Junction at 7pm people come and jam out for awhile on guitars and stuff, and tonight was no exception. I was taught some "cheater chords" by one of the people there, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn't leave until almost 10pm, after having shown up originally at around 2:30pm. Wow, dude, what a day.

And it was totally cool to have that kind of a mind expanding break from school.

Maybe the WB isn't so bad after all.

Oh, and I went to Glen's afterwards... they actually sell Manischewitz! I thought for sure that they wouldn't until I looked. Score.

I'm so strange.

7:41AM - Snow days are for livejournal

Life is like a box of chocolate. I hardly ever get it. Once a year, maybe.
